More new photos

Spanish Bunny
June 15th, 2022

Some promised new photos of Spanish Bunny and Baby Bunny are here! We captured these right before high temperatures settled in for a few days in Kentucky.

For more information on some horse care considerations during the hot months of summer, visit the Horse Care blog of the Season 5 Education Site

This active colt is most content when turned out and moving freely. He still shares a field with his favorite pasture buddy, Money Huntress 22, and the pair are growing more independent from their dams with each day.

Baby Bunny update

Spanish Bunny
June 8th, 2022

In follow up to some of your questions, Spanish Bunny has a small umbilical hernia. A small percentage of foals have umbilical hernias that can range in size.

Spanish Bunny 22's umbilical hernia will be addressed by banding, a straightforward process, commonly performed by equine veterinarians for small umbilical hernias. This process involves making sure the intestines are pushed back into the abdomen and then putting several tight rubber bands around the loose skin outside of the hernia. The banding causes the loose skin to die off and heal and the gut wall to heal and close.

Baby Bunny is quickly approaching 4 months old. He is getting big and doing well with his mom and pasture buddies at Gainesway.

Foal Patrol thanks Dr. Luke Fallon and Dr. Jeremy Shaba of Hagyard Equine Medical Institute for assisting with a summary of the banding process.

We wanted to remind you that tomorrow is the last day of live camera feed for Spanish Bunny and Baby Bunny. Even though the live feed is rolling off at Gainesway Farm for the season, check in here often between now and the season's end on June 30th for mom and colt updates.
