Miss Always Ready's paddock neighbor - Paulistinha
Miss Always ReadyApril 13th, 2021
We received a few questions about the mare and foal in Miss Always Ready's paddock view. As usual, Chris Baker provided us with some great information! The mare in the camera view is Paulistinha and her Medaglia D'Oro colt, born in the early hours of April 12. The colt is a bit weak in his hind pasterns, so the staff at Three Chimneys decided to limit his turnout to the "hospital pen" for a few days while he strengthens up. Weak hind pasterns are not uncommon in foals and affect about 10%-15% of all foals. They all strengthen with time. Chris believes this colt will do very well on the racetrack. This colt is Paulistinha's first foal. She is a Tapit half-sister to Gun Runner.
What is the hospital pen? - Three Chimney uses the hospital pen regularly for horses of all types, often after surgery, illness, or injury, where exercise needs to be restricted. The hospital pen's benefits also include allowing the horse access to sunshine, fresh air, and green grass. All the good of being outdoors where horses belong, while they heal!
